Partner, antitrust litigation expert
Stefan Tuinenga is a founding partner of the firm. He has almost two decades of antitrust litigation experience. He primarily focuses on international antitrust litigation and collective actions.
Before starting the firm, Stefan founded the Dutch office of another leading international plaintiff firm. Stefan previously worked for a large tier 1 defence firm in Amsterdam, acting in many of the leading antitrust litigation cases in Europe. He also helped to establish the Fair Trade Authority of Curaçao, where he served as a director, and he worked as in-house legal counsel for a major airline, where he was responsible for worldwide competition and anti-bribery compliance.
Stefan regularly publishes articles on developments in competition law and litigation in the Journal of European Competition Law & Practice and the Dutch competition journals Markt & Mededinging and Mededingingsrecht in de Praktijk. Stefan is a non-governmental advisor to Curaçao in the International Competition Network.
Representing the Stichting Consumer Competition Claims in a collective action for Dutch consumers against Booking.com. The case concerns illegal price parity clauses in violation of EU competition law and the Digital Markets Act, and dark patterns in violation of EU consumer law.
Representing the Stichting CSS Claims in an antitrust damages claim for various large corporates against Google, for abuse of dominance with its Google Shopping service.
Representing the Stichting Ethylene Claims in an antitrust damages claim for various large corporates in connection with the Ethylene cartel fined by the European Commission.
Represented four utility companies in a cartel damages claim involving the worldwide power cables cartel.
Representing a large corporate in a cartel damages claims against truck manufacturers.
Representing the Fair Trade Authority of Curaçao (FTAC) in various fining cases, including their first-ever imposed fine, which was confirmed by the highest Curaçao court.
Representing the Stichting Eierkartelschade in a mass torts claim for more than a hundred Dutch and Belgian poultry farmers in a cartel follow-on claim against egg product manufacturers
Represented a multinational airline in the air cargo follow-on civil damages cases
Represented corporate clients in pursuing a cartel damages claim in connection with a cardboard and paper cartel
Represented corporate clients in multiple competition law investigations by the European Commission and the Dutch competition authority, including in the air cargo, telecommunications, insulated glass, flour, and retail food packaging sector, as well as in internal investigations.
Stefan Tuinenga has registered the following principal (and secondary) legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):
– Litigation (Burgerlijk procesrecht, subrechtsgebied litigation)
– Competition law (Economisch ordeningsrecht, subrechtsgebied mededingingsrecht)
Based on this registration, he/she is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
