Lindenbaum › People › Sophie Gilliam
Sophie Gilliam was admitted to the Dutch Bar in February 2007 after obtaining degrees from Leiden University and Sciences Po Paris. She has almost 20 years of experience in antitrust litigation and has represented clients on both the claimant and defense sides. She joined Lindenbaum in October 2026. Sophie is a member of the Dutch Association for Competition Lawyers (VvM), the collective redress associations VVMA and VEMCA, the Dutch Association for Procedural Law (NVvP), and an honorary member of the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA). She regularly speaks at conferences on antitrust litigation and litigation funding in the Netherlands and internationally. Sophie Gilliam has registered the following principal (and secondary) legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister): – Litigation (Burgerlijk procesrecht, subrechtsgebied litigation) – Competition law (Economisch ordeningsrecht, subrechtsgebied mededingingsrecht) Based on this registration, she is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
Represented a claimant in the EU air cargo antitrust litigation relating to a worldwide cartel on fuel surcharges, bundling damages claims of hundreds of companies from all over Europe and beyond using airfreight services.
Represented a claimant in an antitrust litigation case following the fines imposed by the European Commission on truck manufacturers, bunding damages claims of hundreds of direct purchasers and/or lessees of heavy trucks.
Represented a claimant in the antitrust litigation case relating to the Dutch elevator and escalator cartel fined by the European Commission.
Represented defendants in the sodium chlorate and the paraffin wax follow-on antitrust damages cases.
Represented corporate clients claiming damages in the road bitumen, the ethylene and the Google Shopping EU follow-on antitrust damages cases.
Represented corporate clients in competition law investigations by the European Commission and the Dutch competition authority, as well as in internal investigations.
Advised corporate clients on all aspects of EU and Dutch competition law, including the DMA.
